the week's best

November 23, 2013

This week has been one of those weeks when you feel like you can't do enough. December is always when we receive our job reviews courtesy of the firm principals. Just the announcement of the impending meetings fills me with angst, so that's basically all of November. It's not that I'm not focused on progressing my career all year, it's just having to take the time to consider what your successes have been or where your weaknesses are, drives me to distraction. How do you promote the company you work for, other than making sure your relationships are solid & what you are producing is beyond the client's expectations? It's a rhetorical question, I realize, of course there's always more that can be done - it's just I might need a wee bit more time, more energy and a little less time trolling the internet. So, to celebrate my utter denial of job reviews I have decided to focus on sparkly, bright, colorful stuff which always makes me feel better - I invite you to join me....

  • Get to know one of my fave Portland artists, Rachel Austin. Her canvases of bright stylized poppies are my favorite.
  • This site is self explanatory, Plenty of Colour : Inspiration Devoted to Colour.
  • This mural transforming the exterior of a historic church in Washington DC is stunning!
  • Just waiting for the holiday cocktail party invitations to start rolling in, so that I can have an excuse to order some of these lovelies....
  • My childhood comforter was made from Marimekko fabric, the famous Finnish patterns are still going strong today and remain a perfect colorful pick me up!

I'm an architect & writer based in Portland, Oregon. I'm passionate about broadcasting the value of design and established  Y/Wd in 2012 as a design resource with a mission to connect, create & communicate.

I design spaces both large & small. I'm a list maker, researcher & a card-carrying introvert. I relish problem solving & finding the perfect fit. I'm a fan of process and storytelling - finding connections between seemingly random ideas is my super power!

Life is full of daily doses of inspiration, I'm happy to share a bit with you. ---- Jen
