We own a piece of the coast!

June 29, 2014

It still seems a little surreal, but it's true - we own our own little slice of the Oregon Coast right in Oceanside! The house that we will eventually build here will be the first house you see after the sign that welcomes you to Oceanside, so in my mind I'm naming this little adventure 1 Oceanside.

It's still up in the air when we will be able to build something here, and even though it's unclear in this photo, the site is ridiculously steep. We climbed up the lot barely 20 feet to see the view and it was a life and death feat in soil that is basically moving sand. There are plenty of reasons why this was a pretty crazy idea, the impending tsunami being the main one, but with that being said I'll take this little adventure regardless!

My intent is to document this process as it unfolds, from inception to the final deal. I've tried really hard to not let my mind wander and daydream as the lot sale was progressing, because I didn't want to get ahead of myself and jinx the whole operation. But the papers are signed and we genuinely own this 1/4 acre, so I will let the ideas take hold.  There's plenty of research to do and logistical hurdles to jump, but there's also ideas to try out and imagine - I look forward to you taking this journey with me and I think we'll both learn a lot through this process!

I'm an architect & writer based in Portland, Oregon. I'm passionate about broadcasting the value of design and established  Y/Wd in 2012 as a design resource with a mission to connect, create & communicate.

I design spaces both large & small. I'm a list maker, researcher & a card-carrying introvert. I relish problem solving & finding the perfect fit. I'm a fan of process and storytelling - finding connections between seemingly random ideas is my super power!

Life is full of daily doses of inspiration, I'm happy to share a bit with you. ---- Jen
